Oral Biology

UF campus scene

Oral Biology is a tremendously diverse scientific area encompassing the disciplines of molecular biology and genetics, microbiology and immunology, genomics, biochemistry, biophysics, craniofacial development, pharmacology, physiology, and cancer biology. Because of the unique combination of tissues and functions of the mouth and craniofacial complex, the field of oral biology blends fundamental scientific disciplines in unique and fascinating ways to meet the challenges of developing new and highly effective ways to manage, cure or prevent diseases and developmental defects.

The Department of Oral Biology at the University of Florida College of Dentistry is home to 19 faculty and a large cadre of students, post-doctoral trainees, technical and administrative staff. The department generates about $10 million dollars in extramural research funding annually and is also the home to the NIH/NIDCR Comprehensive Training Program in Oral Biology, which provides support for Ph.D. students, D.M.D./Ph.D. dual-degree students, and postdoctoral fellows.

The department offers a highly dynamic and supportive research and training environment for undergraduates, graduate students and clinical fellows. We are continuing to recruit additional scientists to broaden our commitments to cutting edge research and training in the molecular basis of diseases that affect people around the world.
